Joomla! Administration Login and Overview

This guide covers the basics of logging in to your Joomla! website with a brief overview of the website control panel.

Log In

To work on your website, you need to log in to the website control panel. Here is how to do this:

  • login_thumbGo to your website homepage and then add /administrator to the address bar and press enter.
  • For instance, if your website was www.example.com, then you would go to www.example.com/administrator.
  • At the login screen, enter your username and password you were given for administering your Joomla! site and press the Login button.
If your domain is new or in the process of moving from your current host, you can access your domain example.calvaryweb.info. Please be sure to substitute www.example.com for your full domain name or example.calvaryweb.info with the first part of your domain name.

Once you have logged in you will be brought to the following screen:

From here you can do everything you need to do on your website. This is the control panel of the administration part of your website.

  •  Most of the time you will use the horizontal menu items like Site, Menus, Content, etc. (see above image.)
  •  If you ever need to return to this screen just click on Site > Control Panel.
From the administrative control panel you can make changes that can have severe consequences to your website. Please be careful.

We'll now show you a brief overview of 5 areas. The details of each are as follows.

 

Joomla! Administration Control Panel: Article Manager

1. Article Manager

 Almost every Joomla webpage is an article page. You will spend most all of your time working in the Article Manager.

2. Frontpage Manager

 Click on the Frontpage Manager to work on the home page of your website. This is a special article page and is accessible from either this button or from the Article Manager.

3. Components

 This menu item, called Components, is where you work on elements like the Contacts page or other installed components such as CK Forms, Bible Study component, JEvents Calendar, etc.

Only installed and enabled components are available through the component menu item.

4. Menus

 This is the Menu item where you can create menus for your website.

5. User Manager

 With the User Manager you can add, delete, and modify users, including changing password and who receives system emails.
